MTS INDIA HELD UN DECADE ENDORSED GLOBAL STUDENT VOLUNTEERS MEETING ON AUGUST 22 & WOMEN'S LEADERSHIP EVENT SCHEDULED FOR SEPTEMBER 14

MTS India Section organized the MTS India-Global Student Volunteer Meet as an UN Decade Endorsed Event on August 22. The event was a prelude to the MTS India Section Women’s Leadership event in Marine Technology, Engineering and Science scheduled for September 14. Priya Pandey, Student Coordinator, MTS IIT Delhi Student Chapter highlighted initiatives taken to reach participants from more than 30 countries. She also mentioned the support provided by the United Nations Decade of Ocean Science for Sustainable Development for conducting this event.

Dr. J.Preetha Roselyn, MTS SRMIST Student Chapter Councilor provided the details of different events conducted; awards received, international scholarships of MTS India Section. She also spoke about the Women’s Leadership Program in Marine Technology, Engineering and Science highlighting the keynote speakers and school student’s presentations. The introduction of student volunteers from various countries and the participating organization list was provided by Dr. R.Venkatesan, MTS India Section Chairman. He also announced the MTS Nanda Student Innovation Award, which is devoted to Late Nandakumar, who acted as the Secretary of MTS India Section, which will envisage young talented youth to develop ideas into product on marine electronics, maritime communications and telemedicine for mariner. He also thanked the members who donated to the award.Krupa Nandakumar remembered the contributions of Nandakumar to the marine society, and she thanked MTS India Section for this award initiative.

 

The introduction of keynote speaker, Dr Jyotika Virmani was provided by Dr.Monika Aggarwal, MTS IIT D Student Chapter. Dr Jyotika Virmani, Executive Director, Schmidt Ocean Institute delivered her keynote speech “Ocean Exploration: Incredible Technologies and Discoveries”. She discussed the mapping of the seafloor process and the biological collection of ocean species by ROV Sabastin. She explained the different technologies in underwater to obtain the 3D images of the species and for image processing.
