MTS Student Members Win the Smart India Hackathon 2019
Innovation and problem solving are what the national Smart India Hackathon is all about and MTS Student Chapter members were victorious, beating 16 teams to place first in the “Smart Cities” category with their innovative solution for collecting floating waste on static water bodies and using sensors to relay water quality information.
The team members from MTS INDIA under the BIT MTS Student Section and Unmanned Underwater Vehicle Lab worked day and night during the five-day hackathon event, ultimately taking home the Rs. 1,00,000 ($1500) prize in the competition which was held at the Indian Institute of Technology, July 8-12.
Students Dhayanandhan C, Vignesh S, Subasree SR, Sriram N, Abarna A, and Sudhakar K worked together with MTS student counselor and mentor Dr. Selvamuthukumaran, ultimately demonstrating one way that unmanned underwater vehicles can be used to solve problems in local communities and improve water quality.
