Houston Annual BBQ Supports the Next Generation
The Houston Section of the Marine Technology Society, the largest Section of the Society, hosted its Annual Barbecue Social and Fundraiser on November 7, 2019. This annual event has become a much anticipated tradition along the Gulf Coast, attracting some 600 offshore industry professionals and their guests.
This year’s event was once again hosted by Ashtead Technology Offshore, an independent one stop shop for ROV, Survey, Hydrographic, Geophysical, Environmental and NDT equipment. Ashtead hosted the BBQ at their new facility in NorthWest Houston.
In addition to an evening of socializing, food and refreshments, the Barbecue offered excellent networking and exhibit opportunities including 65 exhibit tables and a slient auction with donated items and autographed sports memorabilia.
This is the Section’s leading fundraiser of the year and money raised supports the Section’s vibrant scholarship program. Fifty students from local Texas universities attended the event which featured a scholarship award presentation; there was even a section of the barbeque allocated to local high school robotics clubs to display their robotics.
The MTS Houston Barbecue is organized and run by volunteers including among others, long-time Chair Melissa Wood, TDI-Brooks, International; CoChair Jessica Jarvis, Technip FMC; Auction Chair Stephanie Rollins, OneSubsea; and a barbecue cooking team that includes; Chuck Richards and Rick Cisneros, CA Richards, Reed Richards and Terry Dailey who are both Independents.
