Inauguration of MTS Student Section at the Anna University Institute for Ocean Management
MTS continues to grow in reach and impact, presenting opportunities to students and professionals worldwide. The MTS Student Section at the Institute for Ocean Management at Anna University has officially begun, starting a new chapter for many students in Chennai, India.
Inauguration Welcome Address
The inauguration of the MTS India Student Chapter at the Institute for Ocean Management commenced with a heartfelt welcome address by Dr. Krishnaveni, the Director and Professor at the Institute. She warmly welcomed esteemed guests, including Dr. K. P. Jaya, Head, Department of Civil Engineering, Anna University and Thiru. Govind Karup from the Envi Heals Foundation. She also expressed her gratitude for the support of Dr. R. Venkatesan and Dr. Preetha Roselyn from SRM University for the function. In her welcome address she warmly greeted students, staff, and all attendees. She expressed her excitement about the event and highlighted the importance of MTS in enhancing educational and community opportunities. Her address aimed to inspire and motivate all participants to engage actively in the upcoming activities.
Lighting Ceremony
A symbolic lamp-lighting ceremony followed the welcome address, with all chief guests taking part in this traditional gesture of enlightenment and unity. This significant moment was followed by the introduction of the newly appointed chairman, secretary, and office bearers of the MTS Student Section. Their introduction marked the beginning of a dynamic and robust framework for student-led initiatives, establishing a solid foundation for future activities.
Felicitation Address by Thiru. Govind Karup
Following Dr. Krishnaveni's welcome, Thiru. Govind Karup, a distinguished alumnus and founder of EnvilHeals Foundations, addressed the audience. He emphasized the vital role of organizations like MTS in fostering a deeper understanding and engagement among students about the marine environment. Govind highlighted the urgent need for educational platforms that support marine technology and conservation. The session then transitioned into an interactive discussion, energizing the audience, and prompting engaging conversations about the future of marine technology and its significance in today's context.
Inaugural Address by Prof. Dr. K.P. Jaya
The chief guest, Prof. Dr. K.P. Jaya, Head of the Civil Engineering Department at Anna University, expressed her heartfelt gratitude to the MTS India team for their collaborative efforts with the university. She shared her vision for hosting an international conference under the auspices of MTS, aimed at positioning Anna University on a global platform. Prof. Jaya’s remarks resonated with the audience, highlighting the potential for interdisciplinary collaboration in marine research and technology.
Highlights of MTS India Section by Dr. R. Venkatesan
Dr. R. Venkatesan provided an insightful overview of the evolution of the MTS India Section and its pivotal activities over the years. Highlighted the significant milestones achieved since the section's inception, inspiring the young audience and encouraging them to take an active role in the organization. His reflections on past achievements served as motivation for students to contribute meaningfully to marine technology and research.
Roles and responsibilities of MTS Student Section by Dr. Preetha Roslyn
Dr. Preetha Roslyn engaged the audience in a dynamic conversation, probing their expectations and aspirations from the MTS Society. She detailed the society’s objectives, emphasizing its significance in fostering students' professional growth and encouraging their active participation in various initiatives. Her engaging approach helped to clarify the role of MTS in shaping the careers of aspiring marine professionals.
Proposed Activities by G. Sudharson
G. Sudharson, the Chairman of the MTS Student Chapter, presented an exciting array of activities planned for the upcoming year. The activities included Training programs were conducted on shrimp farming in Kattur village, along with field visits to the Fishing Harbor and Fishery Survey of India in Chennai, focusing on microplastics analysis and coastal sampling. Hands-on training in drone surveying was provided, along with workshops on fish waste management, a survey on cyclones' impacts on livelihoods, and training in the Thoondil app for identifying potential fishing zones.
Third MTS Nanda Student Innovation Award
Presentation of awards to winners of MTS Nanda Student Innovation Award was done in the inaugural function. Mr Hari Elektronik Lab India Private Limited presented awards to teams from Zakir Hussain College of Engineering and Technology, Aligarh Muslim University and SRM Institute of Science and Technology, Kattankulathu. We congratulate the winners of Third MTS NANDA STUDENT INNOVATION AWARD Two teams were selected. They are Zakir Hussain College of Engineering and Technology, Aligarh Muslim University - Abdus Samad Suhail, Mohd Umar Khan, Yusuf Hasan, Ayra Riaz Khan, Nargis Jahan Project title: Perception and Control in AUVs through Virtual Slam Benchmarking with Double-Hull Configuration. SRM IST Chennai team - Vignesh, Nikhil Verma, Swarnamahhalakshmi and Abina Project title: Navigation and Positioning in Underwater Vehicles.
