Strengthening Your Network Through the Power of MTS
As we navigate our careers in marine technology, and especially during uncertain times, one truth remains clear: connectivity is key. Whether you’re just starting out or well into your journey, being part of a strong professional network can open doors to new opportunities, collaborations, and friendships. That’s why, as MTS’s new VP of ECOPs (Early Career Ocean Professionals), I am excited to invite you to engage with the MTS ECOP Community – agrowing, informal space within MTS designed to help you build those critical connections.
Involvement in the ECOP Community connects you with fellow ECOPs, creating a peer network of professionals who are navigating similar challenges and situations. Whether through casual networking at industry events, our LinkedIn group (coming soon!), or shared discussions, this is your space to exchange ideas, opportunities, and career insights.
Additionally (and just as importantly), it integrates you into the greater MTS network, ensuring that ECOPs are not just building connections within our own cohort but also actively engaging with the broader global community. This could mean tapping into your regional MTS Section or into a Technical Committee that aligns with your interests. It could mean signing up to volunteer with your local MATE Regional Competition. Across these opportunities, you’ll find mentorship, a chance to give back, and pathways to leadership within MTS.
Another way to elevate your career and recognize the rising stars in our field is through the MTS Awards Program, which is now open for this year’s nominations. Five years ago, I was honored to receive the ON&T ECOP Award, and it proved to be a turning point in my career – connecting me with industry leaders and opening doors across the global MTS community. If you know someone making an impact, please take a moment to nominate them – it’s one of the most meaningful ways to celebrate and support our peers.
By engaging in MTS – whether through the ECOP Community, awards nominations, or any other avenue – you’re investing in the strength of our collective professional network. I encourage you to jump in, find your place, get involved, and help shape the future of our industry together.
Hoping to connect with you soon!
