Walter Munk Scholar Commemorative Lecture

Join us for a commemorative lecture from Joe Gradone, who is the 2024 recipient of the Walter Munk Scholar Award from the Marine Technology Society (MTS) and Walter Munk Foundation for the Oceans. The Walter Munk Scholar Award recognizes outstanding achievements in ocean science and technology and honors Walter Munk's legacy of daring exploration and discovery.

Joe Gradone, a Ph.D. candidate at Rutgers University’s Center for Ocean Observing Leadership, has made significant contributions to physical oceanography, focusing on tropical Atlantic circulation and water mass transport. With a background in Geology (B.S.) and Oceanography (M.S.), Joe has also advanced autonomous underwater vehicle technology through R&D, customer training, and piloting at Teledyne Webb Research. He actively serves the marine community as a member of the U.S. Underwater Glider User Group Steering Committee and chair of the MTS New Jersey Student Section.
