Description: 

Autonomous subsea monitoring technology offers critical benefits to offshore wind in all phases of development and operations - ranging from personnel safety, to advanced wildlife detection capabilities in real time. The technology is now at the right stage to demonstrate its effectiveness for regulatory acceptance and industry adoption.
Over the past two years, National Offshore Wind Research and Development Consortium (NOWRDC) has worked with state government agencies on the East and the West Coasts on a competitive grant solicitation to spur innovation in uncrewed underwater vehicles (UUVs) that can facilitate sustainable floating offshore wind development. This solicitation culminated in the award of 5 projects focused on UUV research, development and demonstration. In addition to advancing technical capabilities, this solicitation includes regulatory engagement to inform a strategy that incorporates UUVs as appropriate and streamlines floating system permitting timelines.
