Empowerment is a critical element of gender equality, however gender equality is not a "women's issue," nor can it be advanced solely through women's efforts. Men are important actors who can share the responsibility and participate actively in this agenda. Why? Because men continue to hold many of the influential decision-making positions. Working in partnership with women, men can be game-changers in transforming cultures and institutions that uphold harmful gender norms.

At OCEANS 2021 San Diego-Porto, the MTS Early Career Ocean Professionals section hosted its first in-person event with great success. The event featured networking between advanced career ocean professionals and ECOPs.

Section of MTS and Oceaneering for the MTS Tech Forum: Intelligence and Observations: The Nexus of Undersea Technology Virtual Panel on September 30, 10 a.m. - 11:30 a.m. EDT. Hear from a panel of leaders in marine technology with opening speakers Phil Beierl, Senior Vice President of the Aerospace and Defense Technologies segment (ADTech) within Oceaneering International, Inc. and Jake Sobin, chair of the Washington, D.C. section of MTS and sales manager at Kongsberg Maritime. Panelists include: Vice Adm. Jeff Trussler, Deputy Chief of Naval Operations for Information Warfare; Craig McLean, Assistant Administrator, NOAA's OAR Office; Dr. Leigh McCue, Associate Professor, George Mason University; and Zdenka Willis, Panel Moderator, MTS President.

This event resulted in the creation of the official Hindi UN Decade logo.

Rutgers University held two weeks of summer camp programs for undergraduate students with a focus on HF radar in the first week and underwater gliders in the second. Throughout the camps, students participated in classroom and field activities that introduced them to the technologies and the many applications they support.
