Celebrating Innovation: MTS Supports Ocean Exchange and Collegiate Awards

MTS is proud to be a supporter of Ocean Exchange, a global leader in accelerating innovative solutions for healthy oceans and a sustainable blue economy. This year marked the 13th anniversary of Ocean Exchange’s prestigious award competition, which continues to draw groundbreaking startups from around the world. Finalists represented seven countries, offering solutions to some of the most pressing challenges facing our planet.  

Of special note, this year marked the 9th anniversary of the Ocean Exchange Collegiate Awards, an event dedicated to spotlighting the ingenuity of young innovators. Eight talented finalists competed for two $10,000 prizes supported by Ocean Exchange, MTS, and the Guy Harvey Foundation.  

This year’s awards celebrated two outstanding individuals: 

  • PhyCo Technologies – Represented by Ranah Chavoshi from Simon Fraser University, PhyCo™ is revolutionizing marine biotechnology with its focus on seaweed aquaculture and the development of compostable plastics. Their work has the potential to transform industries while supporting sustainable ocean practices. 

  • Ceretune LLC – Led by Reid Barnett from North Carolina State University, Ceretune LLC is tackling water pollution with innovative fibrous aquatic bioscaffolds, designed to efficiently remove harmful contaminants from aquatic environments.

MTS is honored to have partnered with Ocean Exchange and the Guy Harvey Foundation to support these visionary student-led projects. The Collegiate Awards embody the mission of fostering groundbreaking marine technology while empowering the next generation of ocean innovators.
