Vice President of ECOPs - Sridhar Krishnamoorthy 

Sridhar Krishnamoorthy is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Civil Engineering at the University College of Engineering, Pattukottai, a Constituent College of Anna University. He is an ocean engineer and educator specializing in offshore hydrodynamics, floating production systems, mooring dynamics, and marine renewable energy. His research integrates experimental investigations with advanced numerical modeling to develop innovative solutions for deepwater offshore structures and resilient marine infrastructure. An active leader within the global marine technology community, Sridhar previously served as Chair of the Marine Technology Society (MTS) IIT Madras Student Chapter and served as its Advisory Chair, where he has fostered student engagement, professional development, and international collaboration. He also serves in leadership roles within the IEEE Oceanic Engineering Society (OES), IAHR Young Professionals Network, and the ASME Early Career Engineering Program Committee, advocating for mentorship, interdisciplinary collaboration, and opportunities for early career ocean professionals. His contributions have been recognized through several prestigious honors, including the MTS Charles H. Bussmann Graduate Scholarship (2024), the Offshore Technology Conference (OTC) Emerging Leader Award (2025), IEEE OES YP BOOST Laureate (2025–2026), and the inaugural RINA STEM Award (2025) for excellence in ocean engineering education and outreach. Through his work in research, education, professional leadership, and international engagement, Sridhar is committed to empowering the next generation of ocean professionals and advancing sustainable marine technology worldwide.

Indicate one or two key goals that you hope to accomplish in this position over the next 3 years:
If elected as Vice President of the MTS Early Career Ocean Professionals (ECOP), my primary goal is to strengthen and expand the global ECOP community by fostering greater connectivity, inclusivity, and professional growth for early career members. Drawing upon my experience in leading the MTS IIT Madras Student Chapter, mentoring young professionals, and serving in leadership roles within IEEE Oceanic Engineering Society, IAHR Young Professionals Network, and ASME, I aim to create stronger connections among ECOPs across regions through mentorship programs, networking events, technical webinars, leadership workshops, and collaborative initiatives. I believe that every early career professional, regardless of geographical location, should have access to opportunities that support their professional and personal development. My second goal is to increase the visibility and active participation of ECOPs within the Marine Technology Society by creating meaningful pathways for engagement in technical committees, conferences, publications, standards development, and Society governance. I will work closely with MTS leadership, student sections, and industry partners to encourage greater representation of early career professionals in decision-making and international collaborations. By strengthening partnerships across academia, industry, government, and professional societies, I hope to build a vibrant, diverse, and globally connected ECOP community that empowers the next generation of leaders to address the challenges and opportunities of the sustainable blue economy.

Discuss the qualities and experience you possess that make you a strong candidate for the position for which you are running: 
My leadership journey has been defined by a commitment to building communities, empowering people, and creating opportunities for the next generation of ocean professionals. Throughout my involvement with the Marine Technology Society (MTS) and other international professional organizations, I have consistently transformed ideas into impactful initiatives that connect students, researchers, and industry professionals. As the former Chair of the MTS IIT Madras Student Chapter, I led the chapter through a period of significant growth by organizing technical symposia, professional development workshops, industry interactions, outreach programs, and interdisciplinary collaborations. These initiatives strengthened member engagement, increased the visibility of MTS in India, and helped establish the chapter as one of the Society's most active student communities. More importantly, I worked to build a sustainable leadership culture that empowered future student leaders and inspired greater participation in MTS activities. My leadership extends beyond MTS through active roles within the IEEE Oceanic Engineering Society (OES), IAHR Young Professionals Network, and the ASME Early Career Engineering Program Committee. These experiences have enabled me to collaborate with diverse international teams, organize professional programs, build strategic partnerships, and advocate for the advancement of early career ocean professionals across academia and industry. MTS has played a transformative role in my own professional journey. Receiving the MTS Charles H. Bussmann Graduate Scholarship in 2024 was a defining milestone that recognized both my technical contributions and leadership potential. The opportunities, mentorship, and global network provided by MTS also contributed to my selection as an Offshore Technology Conference (OTC) Emerging Leader in 2025, allowing me to engage with international leaders and broaden my perspective on the future of the marine technology profession. These experiences have strengthened my belief that professional societies have the power to shape careers and inspire future leaders. Serving as Vice President of ECOP is my opportunity to give back to the MTS community that has invested in my growth. I want to create the same opportunities that I have been fortunate to receive by expanding mentorship, strengthening global engagement, encouraging collaboration across regions, and ensuring that every early career member feels connected, represented, and empowered within the Society. I am a visionary and collaborative leader who believes that leadership is measured not by individual achievements but by the communities we build and the people we empower. I am committed to working with ECOP members worldwide to cultivate an inclusive, dynamic, and globally connected network that will help shape the future of the Marine Technology Society and the broader ocean community.
